Editorial process
Health-coverage information ages fast. CMS publishes new plan files monthly, the IRA introduced multi-year benefit changes, and Wisconsin Medicaid keeps shifting through the unwinding. Here's how we keep MediNav current and what to do if you find something wrong.
Where the data comes from
Every plan and program detail you see is sourced from government-published files, not third-party scrapers. Specifics are in our methodology page. The short version:
- Medicare plan facts: CMS Plan Finder Landscape + PBP + Monthly PUF.
- Wisconsin Medicaid program rules: WI DHS published guidelines.
- ACA Marketplace + subsidies: HHS QHP Landscape + ASPE FPL tables.
- Drug data: NLM RxNorm.
- Provider lookups: CMS NPPES (NPI Registry).
Review cadence
- Monthly — re-ingest the CMS Landscape file. New plan availability, premium / deductible / OOP-max changes, Star rating updates.
- January — refresh FPL guidelines, MSP / LIS thresholds, Medicare Part B premium + deductible, IRA Part D parameters.
- After each AEP — full content audit. Every explainer page reviewed for accuracy against the new plan year.
- Continuously — we accept GitHub issues and corrections from the public. Pull requests with sourced edits get priority review.
Who writes the content
Explainers and the screener copy are written by the MediNav team in consultation with public-domain government materials (CMS, SSA, WI DHS, NLM). MediNav is a free, neutral comparison tool — not a brokerage and not affiliated with any carrier or federal program. Where copy makes a recommendation (e.g. “consider applying for an MSP”), the rationale is stated and sourced inline.
Independent verification is best obtained through Wisconsin SHIP counselors at 1-800-242-1060 (free, no commission, no upsell) or through a licensed Medicare broker. We list both in our WI resources page.
Corrections policy
- File an issue at GitHub with the URL, the specific claim, and a citation if you have one.
- We acknowledge corrections within 7 days; substantive errors are fixed within 30 days. Material correction history is tracked in the public commit log.
- For factual errors with safety implications (e.g., wrong enrollment deadline), we publish a correction in the relevant page's last-updated footer.
What we will NOT do
- Take advertising or affiliate fees from carriers.
- Rank plans for any reason other than the user's stated priorities.
- Sell, share, or rent personal or health data.
- Replace a licensed broker or SHIP counselor for actual enrollment decisions.
